Julia Roberts and Giorgio Armani Collaborate for a Good Cause

August 30, 2008 by Luba · Leave a Comment

Julia Roberts is teaming up with Italian designer Giorgio Armani to create t-shirts supporting the (PRODUCT) RED initiative. The shirts will be for both women and men and will be sold through the Emporio Armani brand. They will be available in grey, white, black and red and will feature the tree of life motif that Julia Roberts created last year in her first collaboration with the designer, when back in December of 2007, the duo created bracelets for the good cause. 40 percent of the gross profit margin of the shirts will go towards the Global Fund, in support of AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria programs in Africa. Roberts specifically requested that the t-shirts will be made in Africa as well. Armani, in great admiration of the talented actress says, “Julia has helped to create beautiful and unique designs for both women and men, which will be a visible reminder of the part that we can all play in fighting AIDS in Africa. I adore working with Julia and appreciate, once again, how she always stands by my side in important collaborations such as this.”

We can show our support for this important cause by buying the shirts when they hit stored in September for the price of $125. They will also be available online at http://emporioarmani.com.

Kate Moss as a Golden Sculpture

The British artist Marc Quinn has unveiled a sculpture of Kate Moss in solid gold called Siren at the British Museum. It weighs 50 kilograms and it is worth a stunning £1.5 million. Most impressive is the fact that Siren is said to be the largest gold statue to be made in the world since Ancient Egypt. Of Kate Moss, Quinn says, “”I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who’s the ideal beauty of the moment.” But this is not the first time the British supermodel was a muse for Marc. In his 2006 work, the artist cast Kate Moss in a provocative yoga pose named Sphinx where Kate had her ankles and arms wrapped behind her ears.

Naomi Campbell just signed up to launch a clothing line through 284 which is a new label from the Sao Paolo-based posh retailer Daslu. Campbell describes her collection as one for “strong women” and is hoping that “everybody will like it.” But is she going to settle down in Brazil? Apparently, her Russian billionaire boyfriend Vladimir Doronin has bought the supermodel an $18.5 million penthouse apartment in Sao Paolo. It is said that Vladimir bought Naomi the apartment after she told him that she wanted to settle down in Brazil as it is “her favourite country.” Wow, he must be really smitten!

Giorgio Armani is set to collaborate yet again with Emaar Properties to design a set of villas located on the Sidi Abdel Rahman Bay in Egypt as part of the company’s new $1.85 billion project. Armani describes the community as the “the best stretch of beach on the north coast” of Egypt. The villas will be up to 500 square meters in size and with up to four bedrooms as each of them will have its own pool.

“While designing the Armani Residences, Marassi, I integrated several elements that capture the serenity and calm of beachfront living. I was also keen to present residents with personalised living spaces that conveyed the comfort, simplicity and understated elegance - cornerstones of Armani Residences offering,” explains Armani.

The Chairman of Emaar Properties, Mr Mohamed Ali Alabbar says that the “Armani Residences will be a superior value addition to Marassi, as these elegant homes have the personal touch of Giorgio Armani.”

The talented Italian designer has already collaborated with Emaar Properties once before on a hotel set to open in Dubai in 2009. The hotel is part of Emaar’s Burj Dubai development and includes guest rooms, restaurant and spa as well as luxury apartments.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster Versace

What happens when you combine a luxurious Italian fashion house with the most beautiful and exquisite car in the world Lamborghini? Well, you pretty much get the most desired car for both men and women, although I lust after Lamborghini every day with or without any fashion brand. I remember the first time I got into a Lamborghini, I loved the sound it made: so raw and powerful, a true animal beast. Its shape, its structure, its feel is beyond any words and superlatives I can ever say! And everyone knows that Versace is all about the fabrics and slipping into its silky feminine dresses is a definite luxury. The first time these two mega Italian brands collaborated was in 2006 in Paris. And now the sexy combo is back with the special addition Murciélago LP640 Roadster. Oh, yeah!

The Murciélago is fully logo and fabric upgraded including black and white leather seats with the Versace Greek key motif stitching, and white soft nappa leather with hand-embroidered Versace Greek fret motif on the instrumental panel, the doors and the center console. However, the most intriguing upgrade is the transparent hood engine showing the powerful V12 engine, which is the first time that this is featured for the LP640.

The seductive Italian beauty was previewed for the first time on the 23th of June this summer at the Versace’s Via Gesu palazzo for Men’s Fashion Week in Milan. There is also a hand-made accessory collection exclusively made from black matte calf skin and will be available at Versace Boutiques and selected Lamborghini Showrooms beginning in November of 2008. The accessories include a trolley bag, suit carrier, sports bag, as well as a briefcase, suitcase, gloves, driving shoes, belt, wallet, key ring, beauty case, hat and a pair of jeans.

New Louis Vuitton Collaboration for Handbags

Marc Jacobs and Comme des Garcons founder Rei Kawakubo will be collaborating to release new design handbags for Louis Vuitton. On the latest design, marc Jacobs says, “I admire and worship her [Rei Kawakubo] and it’s the kind of thing that I think is so wonderful to do at Vuitton, where it’s such an iconic brand and that monogram and everything and, again, I’ve said all this before, but it’s so wonderful to have someone so outside of that thing take their look at it, their approach to it.” It will be interesting to see the ultimate French luxury brand Louis Vuitton under the influence of the ultimate Japanese avant-garde fashion rebel brand. Kawakubo’s six handbag designs will debut next Wednesday in Tokyo. In the photo above is a sneak preview of one of them.

Comme des Garcons will also be launching a line for H&M in November. Designer Rei Kawakubo will create a collection for women, men and children, as well as accessories and in a new twist, a unisex fragrance.
