Barbie’s 50th Birthday is coming up next year and for her special runway show in 2009, the infamous doll is getting to ready to wear a fabulous pair of Louboutins. Christian Louboutin is designing a pair of pumps in the legendary Barbie Pantone 219 Pink that will make their debut at the Barbie Mattel runway show during New York Fashion Week in February 2009. As of now, 50 designers, unfortunately still undisclosed, will create Barbie inspired outfits for the extravagant show and each of the models will wear the special pink Louboutins. As for Louboutin, whose pumps are by far the most wanted worldwide, he is a longtime fan of Barbie, “I guess I always had a little “girlie side” who liked Barbie. Barbie needs to wear great shoes because every girl needs to wear great shoes.”

Christian Dior Luxury Spa in Paris

Christian Dior opened its first spa, Dior Institut, at the Hotel Plaza Athénée in Paris (you can see the spa in the photo on the left.) The spa’s grand opening was by none other than Monica Belucci and the spa offers five luxurious treatment rooms in its large 2,900 square foot space. It offers many massage and beauty treatments and techniques for the face and body using the brand’s skincare products. “We want to help more of our clients to associate Dior with skincare, as well as with clothes and fragrances,” said Dior’s skincare director, Louis de Saint Michel to WWD. For all of us not in Paris right now, not to worry as Dior has plans to open similar institutes in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Milan and Seoul.

The Hotel Plaza Athénée is situated in Paris’ fashion “golden triangle” and it is 300 m from the Pont de l’Alma. The entry of the Hotel is on a wide street shaded by chestnut trees, exactly like stepping into the world of your most romantic dreams of a Parisien love novel. The Plaza is the haute couture of luxurious hotels worlwide and its impressive decor with large crystal chandeliers designed in Regency and Louis XV and XVI style and elegant suites overlooking the Eiffel Tower are just some of its many beauties. You may also recognize this Hotel as the setting for the last two episodes of Sex and the City, when Carrie went to Paris, and also for films such as The Devil Wears Prada and Something’s Gotta Give.

Christian Dior Spring 2009 Hot Tribal Shoes

October 4, 2008 by Luba · Leave a Comment

Beware: what you see is only to touch, admire and lust after but not, I repeat not, to wear! These were actually featured as one of the top most dangerous Spring 2009 shoes in a post for New York Magazine. And judging by their Everest-high heels, I can definitely agree. However, these are a work of art and like anything that John Galliano does, these are the tip of the wildest and most beautiful imagination possible. To die-for-gorgeous, the stilettos have a woman statue figure as its heels, which is the African fertility goddess figurine and are inspired by Galliano’s visits to Africa as was his entire collection. The “Tribal Chic” spring 2009 is rich in these artwork shoes which are a loving pleasure to look at. And knowing women’s temptations to own shoes even if we cannot walk a step in them, these will certainly be on the list of must-haves for many, even it is just to look at them and dream that we can feel no pain with such heights. Oh, sweet loves, tonight I’ll dream of thee!

Paris Spring 2009: Christian Dior

Very atypical collection for the extravagant John Galliano as the clothes were so femininely wearable. Short beautiful dresses with sheer skirts, exotic python and animal prints and fire colors like orange and pink were among the favorite standouts. Although, the collection may have seemed a bit too conservative for the creative talent of Galliano, it certainly showed a softer, younger side of the designer. And I literally cannot take my eyes off these hot short dresses!

Spring 2009: The Most Dangerous Shoes

October 2, 2008 by Luba · Leave a Comment

The runways are a scary place especially when it comes to the dangerously high heels, which seem to be more torturous than fashionably beautiful. The shoes can be either way too high or way too uncomfortable and combined with the runway experiments like a sandy runway or the plain extremely slippery ones, we get a horrifying combination of the hazardous runway shows.

This year, many models tripped during the shows of Rodarte, Pucci and who can forget Prada. And many more models stumbled at Dolce & Gabbana and BCBG and many others were petrified during Basso & Brooke, Marni, Gucci, Aminaka Wilmont and Christian Dior but miraculously survived. In any case, I think designers should start paying attention to this much more. It is one thing to bring fantasy and temptatious footwear to the runway, it is another to have models visibly scared, trembling or falling on the runway, there by distracting the audience from the clothes since the audience is merely too worried about the poor girls on the runway.

Below are some of the most horrifying, including the toe-less/sole-less shoes by Aminaka Wilmont, as well as Prada, Rodarte, Marni and Basso & Brooke in that order from left to right!

Famous designer Jean-Paul Gaultier has created a new bottle design for French mineral water brand Evian. The elegant design is to symbolize the purity and balance of natural water. The design features two versions: one is the Pret-a-porter and the other is Haute Couture. The Haute Couture bottle will be presented first in Paris and then it will be sold by the world’s best auctions. All the funds raised from the sale will go to the RAMSAR organization, which aims to protect the Earth’s water resources, with whom Evian have cooperated for more than 10 years.

Every year Evian launches new design bottles and in early 2008, designer Christian Lacroix designed a Pret-a-porter and a Haute Couture limited edition bottles.
