Paris Spring 2009: Hermès

I am in love with the cactus desert sands of the Hermès runway! Designer Jean Paul Gaultier took the Hermès collection for Spring 2009 straight to the wild wild West and it was a pleasure to watch. The runway show was opened by none other than supermodels Stephanie Seymour and Naomi Campbell. The equestrian heritage brand, Hermès which is well identified by the sophisticated world traveler is safe in the creative hands of the talented designer Gaultier. The classic house scarf was creatively twisted into a bandanna and ponchos were made elegant by square-cut cashmere knits and day dresses. The much desired accessories of the brand were stunning including the soft suede riding boots, the riding gloves, the exotic crocodile clutches, the canvas and leather suitcases and the fringed Birkin bags.
Paris Spring 2009: Jean Paul Gaultier

The cute show started out with a trio of modern dancers who danced on the runway. Gaultier’s favorite girl and one of my favorite models, Coco Rocha, reprised her Riverdance moment from Fall 2007 as she joined in the dance. She then took the stage wearing her dance shoes in a fuchsia dress which turned out to be a leotard. This was a ballet inspired collection featuring fitted suits, shirts tied in the back over high waist jersey pants, and flowing dresses. The hairstyles were really cute as the girls with their pinned up hairs under head wraps in true ballet fashion.

Famous designer Jean-Paul Gaultier has created a new bottle design for French mineral water brand Evian. The elegant design is to symbolize the purity and balance of natural water. The design features two versions: one is the Pret-a-porter and the other is Haute Couture. The Haute Couture bottle will be presented first in Paris and then it will be sold by the world’s best auctions. All the funds raised from the sale will go to the RAMSAR organization, which aims to protect the Earth’s water resources, with whom Evian have cooperated for more than 10 years.
Every year Evian launches new design bottles and in early 2008, designer Christian Lacroix designed a Pret-a-porter and a Haute Couture limited edition bottles.
Supermodel Daria Werbowy Gets a Star

The Polish-born Ukrainian-Canadian supermodel got a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto on the 6th of September. Werbowy, which means “willow tree” in Ukrainian, started modeling at the age of 14 for a talent agency of one of her friend’s moms. Ever since her career has been stellar as she holds the record for closing the most number of runway shows in one season. Currently, the star beauty is represented by Elmer Olsen Models in Toronto and IMG in New York. Forbes magazine counts Daria among the top 10 highest-earning models in the world. Her major contracts for this year include Dior, H&M, David Yurman, Jean Paul Gaultier and Lancome.
Coming to Canada’s Walk of Fame, Daria had to hump as her leg was broken. The 24-year-old supermodel broke her foot a few weeks ago at the end of a three-month adventure aboard 52-foot sailboat cruising the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Daria hopes that she will be able to strut down the runway for next month’s European Fashion Shows. We sure hope too!
