The new edition of Elle France published new on-set stills from the upcoming film Coco Avant Chanel starring Audrey Tautou. The movie is currently filming in Paris and is said to be released in France in May of 2009 and will be available worldwide following later in the year. The film will center around Coco Chanel’s earlier years. Designer Karl Lagerfeld has collaborated with costumer Catherine Leterrier for the extravagant film costumes which will include classic Chanel designs and will show how Mademoiselle Chanel was “different from the ladies of her time” — “she was poor, but she had her own style.”

Karl Lagerfeld’s Silent Film about Coco Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld opened his pre-fall Paris-Moscow Metiers D’Art Collection at the Le Ranelagh theater in Paris, with a 10 minute black and white silent film about Coco Chanel. Lagerfeld who “always loved silent movies,” directed the film himself, which starred his favorite male model Brad Kroenig and model model Edita Vilkeviciute who plays Coco from 1913. The first part of the film revolves around 1913 when Chanel first opened her shop and the second part takes place in 1923 when she was already well established. The film also featured Chanel’s Russian lover, the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, from whom she borrowed the pea jacket and pelisse and which tied perfectly to the new Collection which incorporated elements from imperial Russia and Russian folklore.

“It’s a funny movie, unpretentious,” says Lagerfeld. “Chanel was a charming woman, at liberty to seduce men. Everybody this year has decided to make a movie about Chanel, and you know their historical worth is not always too exact.”

The film took two days to shoot in a studio on the outskirts in Paris. Here is a small preview and the full movie is already available on Chanel’s website or from this link by clicking here.

Designer Jussara Lee thinks “Sex and the City” Fashion is “Too Done Up”

November 11, 2008 by Luba · Leave a Comment

Sex and the City may be a huge fashion hit for the public, but it is now a common thing for designers to bash its fashion sense. While many people watch the infamous series religiously for its latest moda and what’s the next best thing to wear, designers do not seem to agree that it is very fashionable. Not so long ago, well known designer Madam Vivienne Westwood said that the movie wasn’t fashionable and even walked out of its premier. Now Brazilian-born designer Jussara Lee who has been in the fashion industry for ten years, a true fashion veteran, is sharing Westwood’s opinion.

“The whole Sex and the City thing was a huge influence on ordinary people. It looks too done up to me. It’s too much hair. Everyone looks like they’ve spent too much time, too much money, and then in the end everyone looks the same. It’s curious that people would go the whole extent to look so the same,” says Jussara.

One of the most anticipated films, “Coco Avant Chanel” just released its first look starring the beautiful Audrey Tautou who will play the icon Coco Chanel in her earlier days. Filming began in early September in Paris and Normandy and the movie is set to be released in late 2009. Directed by Anne Fontaine, the film is loosely based on the biography of Mademoiselle Chanel by Edmonde Charles-Roux titled L’irreguliere. The much awaited costumes, which will also feature iconic Chanel dresses, will be designed by Catherine Leterrier with Karl Lagerfeld’s oversight.

“Any woman who wants to invent a destiny for herself can identify with the early years of Coco Chanel, a young uneducated woman who dreams of entering the world while exacerbating her differences and ignoring everything of the extraordinary destiny awaiting her,” says Tautou. “That’s what makes the whole modernity of the film, and that was the reason why I didn’t hesitate a single second when the role was offered to me.”

Sex and The City Movie Sequel?

November 9, 2008 by Luba · Leave a Comment

A couple of days ago Kim Cattrall, aka Samantha Jones, confirmed that there will be a much-wanted sequel to the Sex and The City: The Movie. “Yes, there will be a sequel. We will do the sequel next summer,” Cattrall says. “We wanted to the first time, and now we’re hopefully doing it again for the second time.” The movie took many years to film as as there were many rumoured infighting between the four ladies, Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon. It seems that these quarrels are not over yet, as just one day later, Sarah Jessica Parker denied the confirmed sequel plans. “I’m thrilled to know Kim is excited but all the deals are not yet done,” says the star that plays Carrie Bradshaw. In September, both Parker and director/writer Michael Patrick King talked about the possible sequel saying even that it is on its way to be written. So, will there be a sequel after all? We hope that soon the diva cast will finally make up their minds.

Karl Lagerfeld Film? “I Think It’s Ridiculous,” he says.

With many biopic films coming out about our favorite fashion designers, like Coco Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and the documentary about Valentino, one might wonder if a Lagerfeld film is next. The designer confides that, “Some directors, whose names I will not mention, have even been approached about making a movie about my life. I think it’s ridiculous. Who would be able to play me, both young and the way I am today?” For the time being, Karl is not considering making a movie about himself. In fact he thinks that he is getting sick of himself because of overexposure. “I’m suffering from an overdose of myself,” says the designer. “At a certain point, you ask yourself, am I a puppet or not?”

“Valentino: The Last Emperor” Movie Clips

September 30, 2008 by Luba · Leave a Comment

I cannot wait to see this film. Here are two clips from the movie taken from youtube.com. In the first clip, we can see Valentino’s cute dogs. It seems that the film will be with a great sense of humor too! And the second clip shows us a glimpse of the relationship between Valentino and Giancarlo.

Valentino: The Last Emperor is a documentary about the life, career and dramatic closing of last fashion show of one of Italy’s greatest designers, Valentino Garavani. The film is produced and directed by Matt Tyrnauer who is a New York writer and filmmaker. The documentary is both intimate and engaging and has received great reviews from its premiers. At the heart of the film is a touching life long love story between Valentino and his partner in both business and life of 50 years, Giancarlo Giammetti. Although, it was not Tyrnauer’s intention to center the documentary around their relationship, things just happened that way. ” [Valentino] is a born dreamer and the last true couturier, who let us in on his creative process and also let us in on the life he built around him to sustain this process,” says Tyrnauer. Truly, Valentino’s designs are not just known for their glamour and elegance but for their attention to detail and delicacy; qualities that only a great designer with devoted love towards his work could possess.
