Designer Jussara Lee thinks “Sex and the City” Fashion is “Too Done Up”

Sex and the City may be a huge fashion hit for the public, but it is now a common thing for designers to bash its fashion sense. While many people watch the infamous series religiously for its latest moda and what’s the next best thing to wear, designers do not seem to agree that it is very fashionable. Not so long ago, well known designer Madam Vivienne Westwood said that the movie wasn’t fashionable and even walked out of its premier. Now Brazilian-born designer Jussara Lee who has been in the fashion industry for ten years, a true fashion veteran, is sharing Westwood’s opinion.

“The whole Sex and the City thing was a huge influence on ordinary people. It looks too done up to me. It’s too much hair. Everyone looks like they’ve spent too much time, too much money, and then in the end everyone looks the same. It’s curious that people would go the whole extent to look so the same,” says Jussara.

Coco Chanel by Douglas Kirkland: 40 Unseen Photos

Photographer Douglas Kirkland released a book Coco Chanel: Three Weeks/1962, featuring 40 unseen photos of the fashion icon capturing some of her most intimate moments. The book is available at Amazon and I cannot wait to buy it! To promote his book, Kirkland is showing his Chanel photography collection at the Westwood Gallery in New York City.

In 1962, Douglas spent three weeks with Mademoiselle Chanel following her everywhere and taking photos of her. Douglas remembers that when he approached her, she was very hesitant and asked him to show her some of his work. Coco was so deeply impressed with his photography that she allowed him full access to her. The photos are truly special and intimate as they show our favorite designer in her private rooms, in the Versailles gardens, with her friends, and when she worked with her sketches and fittings.

Kate Winslet Not Confirmed to Play Vivienne Westwood

October 7, 2008 by Luba · Leave a Comment

Yesterday I wrote, as many other sites reported including the original report by British Vogue, that Kate Winslet is confirmed to play the role of Vivienne Westwood in the upcoming biopic about the designer’s life. Apparently, however, this is not the case as “it is not true at all,” according to Kate’s publicist. On Westwood’s side it was added that, “The script has not even been finished yet, let alone casting. Kate Winslet was just one of many names that were mentioned as possibles to play Vivienne, but this whole thing has been blown completely out of proportion.”

Karl Lagerfeld Film? “I Think It’s Ridiculous,” he says.

With many biopic films coming out about our favorite fashion designers, like Coco Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and the documentary about Valentino, one might wonder if a Lagerfeld film is next. The designer confides that, “Some directors, whose names I will not mention, have even been approached about making a movie about my life. I think it’s ridiculous. Who would be able to play me, both young and the way I am today?” For the time being, Karl is not considering making a movie about himself. In fact he thinks that he is getting sick of himself because of overexposure. “I’m suffering from an overdose of myself,” says the designer. “At a certain point, you ask yourself, am I a puppet or not?”

Confirmed: Kate Winslet to Play Vivienne Westwood

It has been finally confirmed that Kate Winslet will play the role of Vivienne Westwood in the upcoming biopic of the famous designer. “The script is going well and Kate will play Vivienne,” the Westwood representative said. “It has been a long time in the planning but we’re very excited that it’s happening.” Reportedly, Kate has been spending time with the eccentric designer to refine her portrayal for the film role. The biopic will follow Westwood’s life from her punk roots to her rise to international fame as one of fashion’s best. The film has not yet been named by Universal. Note that Universal will release the much anticipated biopic of Mademoiselle Chanel, Coco Avant Chanel, next year with Audrey Tatou to play the fashion icon. I cannot wait for that one!

Kate Winslet to Play Vivienne Westwood

Rumors are flying as at Vivienne Westwood’s Gold Label fashion show in Paris, Carlo D’Amario, the designer’s managing director, told guests that, “Kate Winslet will play Vivienne from the 70s to the present day.” Although, there is no confirmation yet, the talented actress is apparently lined up for the role in the upcoming biopic about the legendary designer. It is thought that Universal will produce the film. If indeed Kate plays the role of Vivienne, it will certainly be a film to watch and honestly, I cannot imagine anyone else who could play this demanding role besides the British beauty.
